I can't believe Naomi hasn't started a thread on sewing machines already! I know they're near and dear to her heart and her collection of them is just going to gain momentum~anyway, on another forum I listed a series of links that I've found helpful to me when searching for info on treadles and other vintage sewing machines. I'd like to share them with you all.
:D- I just hadn't gotten around too it....hehe Thank you Bonne for this great list of links. I see you listed The Needle Bar- they have a great forum specifically for sewing machine collectors- They helped me with my Jones issues I've been having- and I have two shuttles(with bobbins) coming now from people there, the one lady is also sending me an extra manual that she had.
I do know I want at least one more machine- a Singer Model 66.
But knowing me- I'll end up with a dozen or more machines...haha
at the rate Naomi is collecting sewing machines and vintage patterns and fabric..umm I'm going to need 2 houses not just one...LOL
thanks so much Bonne for sharing all those wonderful resources!
The shuttle for my Jones came in- it sews like a dream, very quiet, smooth, and the stitches are so even....I'm going to put my ruffle foot on it later this evening....
The treadles sew that way too. They really are superior to modern machines IMO, except that they just straight stitch, but really , what do you need fancy stitches for most of the time?
Haha, exactly- I saw a bunch of attachments for the Jones that are supposed to let it do zig zag and fancy stitches- I need to see if I can find it again...would be cool to have!
The only other stitch I really use is the zig zag- and the 4 step button hole- but that is the zig zag too.
I recently wiped my computer to the factory settings and unfortunately lost all my Firefox bookmarked websites, so I'm gradually building them again :( , but in the process
I came across this Stitcher's Guild forum http://artisanssquare.com/sg/index.php
& specifically the section on Sewing Machines that I wanted to share the link to: http://artisanssquare.com/sg/index.php/board,9.0.html
so I'm up to 6 machines now- Grandma has a gorgeous White in a beautiful table with matching chair. She brought the Singer up with her- beautiful machine- regularly serviced- Grandpa said he can fix the cord, and I'll need to get a new belt and rubber wheel for the bobbin winder. Besides that it just needs a good cleaning and it will be ready to use! I don't have it here anymore- I had them take it back with them. Hoping this move happens soon- I can't wait to play with my other...3 sewing machines...hehe
Thanks, Bonne. Now that I've run my eyes over the list I am ready for a nap. You are a champ to find and share all this sewing machine information with us!
